What Is Eye Refractive Surgery/Treatment?

Refractive treatments aim to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses by reshaping the front of the eye (cornea) with laser, or by placing a lens inside the eye. These procedures are performed with numbing eye drops and are typically day-care procedures. Your doctor will confirm suitability after detailed eye measurements (corneal thickness/shape, tear film, prescription stability, pupil size, and retinal health).

Common vision issues treated: short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

Are generally healthy, 18 years or older, and your glasses power has been stable
Have healthy corneas and eyes on examination.
Have realistic expectations and can follow aftercare.
May not be suitable if you:
Have certain corneal diseases (e.g., keratoconus), active eye infections/inflammation, or severely dry eyes.
Are pregnant or breastfeeding, or on medications that can affect healing.
Have unstable prescription or other medical conditions that need clearance.
